Journal Editorial Directorate

Research outputs (knowledge, technology) are valuable inputs to the growth of any country’s economy and enhancement of national development. Research findings are mainly communicated/reach  wider audience (end users-researchers, development practitioners, policy makers) through journals. A scientific Journal is also one of the key indicators of research involvement/a tool by which universities are evaluated (MoE Directive/policy).
To this end, Wolaita Sodo University (WSU) had launched Journal of Science and Inclusive Development (JSID) in the end of 2018. This journal is a peer-reviewed/double blind, open access, published biannually. The journal is devoted to disseminating findings of original scientific investigations related to all science and development disciplines.
As a founding Editor-in-chief and leader of the new directorate, I have executed several tasks in collaboration with managing editor that needed to work hard/day and night. The tasks included organizing office, naming the Journal, experience gaining, nominating associate editors, language editors and advisory board members, preparing policy & guideline & approval by senate, launching workshop & call for paper (poster, WSU website, Facebook), constructing Journal website by copy editor, and making Journal layout & logo. Then, receiving manuscripts & reviewing process were began. Finally, the first ever journal published both online and printed copies in the history of WSU. Other key achievements by the directorate included applying and receiving ISSN from The International Centre for the Registration of Serial Publications (CIEPS– ISSN International Centre) located in Paris and receiving DOI from MOSHE. The office is actively working towards maintaining the quality & sustainability of the journal such as Journal website indexed at Ethiopian Journal Online (EJOL), Worldcat database, CAB Direct (CABI’s online database platform) and others; nationally accredited in March 2022 by Ministry of Education after rigorous evaluation of Ethiopian Science Academy. JSID is also applied to be indexed in Scopus (under review process) Web of science and PubMed.

Capacity building training provided to WSU potential authors (How to prepare manuscripts and get published their original, high quality research) that would also contribute to the quality, content coverage/diversity and sustainability of the journal. Further, researchers/authors have also been given feedback information/comments to have positive publishing experience for new/future submissions.
