It's a big honour to say a few from so many, regarding the college of health sciences and medicine, wolaita sodo university. College of health sciences and medicine/ otona campus/ is one of the four campuses of Wolaita sodo university. It's ambition serving the local community with modern practices of medicine goes back to 1920 G.C, starting as a small clinic by Sudan interior mission. After inauguration, upgrades to primary hospital and delivers service for 50 years and further lifts up it's service capacity to general hospital as per the standards of the country and serves for 30 years. In 2009 G.C incorporated by the university as a teaching and referal hospital to deal with teaching of medical and health sciences students, to undertake problem solving researchs and strengthen the clinical community services within the hospital and the public. Recently, 2021G.C, the hospital promotes to comprehensive specialized hospital to become one of few tertiary care providing centers in the country and the one and only in the respective region. The College undertakes the academic activities with around 450 academic staffs having diverse academic qualifications, with in them are professors. There are more than 1,250 total regular undergraduate students including medical students, from neighbouring countries as well, who are passing the national university exit and licencing exam 100% every year. The college is also home for many post graduate students in clinical speciality in health sciences, PhD in public health and medical speciality training residents in general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics and child health and internal medicine. The hospital has a big catchment encompassing 15 million population with more than 700 daily patient flow overseen by clinical specialists and subspecialists. The hospital leads nearby 8 primary hospitals and 4 health centres supporting and equipping for better service delivery. With roughly described resources mentioned up above and considering regional/national disease burden the college aspires to become centre of excellence in nephrology/renal sciences and clinical oncology. The campus resides in a health friendly dega/ highland/ areas of otona near the damota mountain and I warmly welcome individuals and institutions home and abroad with ideas uplifting the country's health system abiding the national health and educational policy.
