College of Natural and Computational Sciences
Welcome to College of Natural and Computational Sciences (CNCS).
The College of Natural and Computational Sciences at Wolaita Sodo University was established in 1999. Initially, it was a part of the College of Education, but soon became an independent College of Natural and Computational Sciences due to changes in national educational programs. Its primary objective is to provide education and training in various applied science disciplines. Initially, the college consisted of departments in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Over time, the college expanded and added departments in Environmental Science, Statistics, Geology, and Biotechnology. This expansion not only broadened the scope of the college's research and community service but also increased student interest. Currently, the college offers nine undergraduate and ten graduate programs and engages in collaborations with international and national institutions in various research and community service areas. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has classified Wolaita Sodo University as an Applied Science University due to its economic significance, ecological context, and commitment to education. Notably, the college places special emphasis on applied science and technology and thus plays a crucial role in modernizing and expanding the agricultural sector.
Currently, the college has 38 undergraduate students and 145 professionals with second and third degrees who are involved in teaching and research activities. This professional mix ratio of 19:71:10 indicates that the college has nearly achieved the national level ratio of 0:70:30. The enrollment rate for undergraduate and graduate regular students has reached 1510 and 207, respectively. According to the college's ten-year strategic plan, the capacity is expected to increase to 1667 undergraduate students and 311 postgraduate students.
The college is actively engaged in inclusive programs that go beyond the regular curriculum to enhance access to education. Since its establishment, the college has fulfilled its responsibilities in all aspects and will continue to contribute towards achieving the university's national goals.
