The Directorate of the Director for Research, publication, Ethics and Dissemination (DRPED) is accountable to the Vice President of Research and Technology Transfer of the University. The Directorate was established in 2015 to conduct problem solving research and disseminate demand driven out-puts or results to the community, policy makers and investors at Regional, National and International level. In the last ten years, significant problem solving research work has been done at Wolaita Sodo University (WSU). This has led to the buildup of a strong base of expertise in knowledge and technology generation and dissemination. This stimulated WSU to build on this base and tap into the strengths that emerged from past investments in areas directly linked to current and future economic and societal needs.

Regarding this, scholars at WSU have been dedicating their time and energy to working with zonal, regional, national as well as international communities to address research and innovation needs. As a result, so far WSU produced 1196 research results to nation. Currently, University is expanding its research prospects through thematic focus, to enhance the depth and impact of its research endeavors. These projects are organized around key thematic areas, such as Agriculture and Agro-Industry, Geology, Mining and Natural Resource Management, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Human Health and Emerging and Cross cutting issues that address critical societal challenges.

The Directorate plays a vital role in directing, supporting and monitoring its research and publication, home base journals, research centers, indigenous knowledge studies, grant search and collaboration, and research ethical creativities being carried out by the research and technology transfer office both within the institution and outside. It also pledges the vision, mission and values of the office and works in ensuring these are attained.
