Wolaita Sodo University Strengthens Financial Governance through IFMIS Training

Wolaita Sodo, Ethiopia — October 22, 2025

Wolaita Sodo University has taken a decisive step toward institutional digitalization by delivering structured training on the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) to its administrative and academic leadership. Conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the initiative marks a pivotal moment in the university’s journey to modernize public financial management.
Over the past six months, the university has hosted a series of targeted trainings, technical support sessions, and monitoring activities focused on IFMIS. Participants included senior officials and staff from key departments such as finance, procurement, property administration, human resources, and audit.
In today’s specialized session, senior experts from the Ministry of Finance provided in-depth guidance on IFMIS implementation, emphasizing its role in enhancing operational efficiency and institutional accountability. Dr. Habtamu Fanta, ICT Executive Officer at WSU, underscored the importance of adopting modern systems to improve service delivery. He noted that automation and digitalization are central pillars of the university’s performance contract with the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Habtamu identified budget management, property administration, and human resource information systems as priority areas for digital transformation. He affirmed that IFMIS is already delivering tangible benefits, including real-time financial reporting, reduced administrative overhead, and standardized processes across departments.
Ministry of Finance experts Mr. Iskezaw Molla and Mr. Haymanot Gedami positioned IFMIS as a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s Expenditure Management and Control Program (EMCP), a national reform initiative aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and public service delivery. Mr. Haymanot emphasized the critical role of institutional leadership in ensuring successful implementation, calling for sustained engagement, resource commitment, and cross-departmental collaboration.
During the discussion forum, participants praised IFMIS for its efficiency and service quality, and recommended continued training, support, and oversight to sustain momentum. The session concluded with a dynamic exchange of questions, suggestions, and feedback, all of which were constructively addressed by the facilitators.
