Institutional Quality Assurance Directorate

Institutional quality assurance office is mandated to ensure the quality and relevance of teaching and learning, research, community services, technology transfer, and administrative and students support services accomplished at Wolaita Sodo University. Four major activities are rendered to ensure the quality of education and training at WSU: input auditing, academic program approval, self-assessment, progress monitoring via standards, facilitating accreditation processes, suggesting interventions based on identified gaps, and documentation and reporting of findings for higher officials.  

Objectives of the Directorate

• To ensure that the quality and relevance of academic programs, research and community engagement at WSU meet standards expected by stakeholders.
• To ensure that graduates have attained skills and knowledge through WSU’s academic programs, research and community services those are valued by stakeholders.
• To enable students and other stakeholders to have confidence in education and training rendered at WSU.
• To assist in maintaining and developing quality of academic programs, research and community engagement through enhanced administrative and support processes.
• Engage all staffs in institutional self-assessment, input audits, progress monitoring and facilitation of programs and institution accreditation.
• Assure the quality of research and community engagement projects by measured the Research and Community Engagement environment; research outputs, and societal impacts.

 Duties and Responsibilities of IQAD

• Evaluate the relevance and quality of different programs and academic units of the university;
• Ensure the quality and relevance of teaching-learning, research and community services offered at WSU.
• Supervise and approve academic programs quality and relevance based on clear standards/framework.
• Support and facilitate program and institutional accreditation and reaccreditation of WSU.
• Be responsible for the implementation of the internal and external auditing of the university;
• Issue policies, guidelines against which the standards of input-process-outputs of teaching-learning, research and community services of the university can be assessed, audited and enhanced;
• Request, when necessary, information and opinion from appropriate organs to examine the performance of programs;
• Nominate Ad hoc teams which will assist the directorate in auditing different programs and academic units of the university;
• When delegated by the president, represent the university regarding quality assurance by external bodies;
• Evaluate the institution at least once every year with a view to ensuring whether the institution is up to standard, and document, communicate its findings to relevant stakeholders including HERQA;
• Gather and disseminate information (when necessary) about quality and standards of programs of study offered by other private and public universities in the country;
• Ensure that such cross-cutting issues as gender, HIV etc. are aligned to the core processes of the university;
• Follow up the practicality or implementation of recommendations made by the directorate and other external QA bodies (HERQA and CEPU);
• Perform other duties given by the president of the university.
