Overview of School of Informatics

School of Informatics (SOI) is one of the famous schools in Wolaita Sodo University; initially it located at Gandaba campus since 2002 till 2013 E.C. Information Technology department is first inaugurated under the college of Natural and computational sciences with six staffs. Cautiously Computer sciences department was established in the same college (CNCS) in 2005E.C.In 2007 E.C Masters in Information Technology was started. Later Information systems department was launched in a year of 2008 E.C. The school was officially inaugurated on April/ 2018. Now the school is moved to the new Technology campus on 25/Jun/2021. It has commenced teaching and learning process by enrolling its first batch of 40 students under Information Technology Department. Information Technology department instruct its teaching Learning in the three modalities such as regular, weekend and summer both in under graduate and post graduate  programs. In the past years, remarkable and multifarious progresses have been registered in terms of quality education delivery, program diversification.

In  Dawuro- Tercha Campus  The school is committed to provide high quality undergraduate programs weekend modality In Information Technology Department that enable students to attain their fullest potential intellectually, ethically and morally. Later in 2013E.C Information Technology department Regular modality with 20 students are launched in Dawro-Tarcha campus.. Currently, 3 undergraduates, 1 post-graduate program are running under the school in main campus. The school delivers courses in regular, weekend and summer modalities. Currently the Students’ enrollment in all programs has shown increment and reaches over 2,309. In the past, over 2000 students had graduated in both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees for School of Informatics. In 2021 GC academic year, the school has a total of 116 academic, 58 administrative. Therefore, in 2021G.C Academic year, WSU has a total of 116 (93 males and 23 females) Academic staff on duty, 76  (62 males and 14 female) are on study leave abroad and, in a country, 44 staff both Academic staff  and Technical assistant in 2nd and 3rd degree program. The number of expatriate staff is 2 of both are male.
